In my mind's eye, I had a vague image of the characters and setting of the world, which was a slum-like environment. The main character, a poor boy who earns his daily bread by dancing, is constantly abused and mistreated by everyone, and gradually becomes mentally deranged due to poverty and stress, unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy. He ends up hunting down those who mocked him, covering himself in their blood, and dancing to attract attention. The story is a metaphor for the feelings we all have of wanting to be noticed and not be abandoned. The wonderful images created by Uguisu Kobo blend the psycho-horror elements that blur the line between reality and delusion with the comical and eerie cartoon-like worldview, and when combined with Yuu's songs, it is a unique and one-of-a-kind work - nilfruits
This is a "pop and mad" animated music video with cartoon-style visuals and a psycho-horror backstory. For this work, we dared not to create a storyboard, but rather, after deciding on the general structure, we used the song as a starting point to create an image, and then improvised the necessary elements. By combining the finished cuts with the music for the first time in the final stage, I believe we were able to achieve a high degree of unity between sound and image. We hope that you will enjoy watching the film a second and third time, as we have put a lot of thought into every detail of the images - つくしやま/うぐいす工房
While the visuals are based on a "pop and mad" style, the songs are expressed using a variety of animation styles. We have used a wide range of animation works from the past and present, including the cut-out animation works of Russian animator Yuri Norshteyn and the cine-calligraphy works of experimental filmmaker Norman McLaren, as references. We also used the area around the former site of the Osaka Artillery Arsenal as inspiration for the film. The ideas that came to me during the research were directly incorporated into the film, such as the setting on the bridge and the moving graffiti. The textures used for the background art were all shot on location - つくしやま/うぐいす工房
The main character has a chicken element that you can feel from the music! I love the crests (hair) that pop out of the hat. I also love the big dog named Komondor. The scene where the shadows are ripping off the plants of the mob expressing their dead and rotten hearts, and the lively dance in the last chorus are really great! - ヤスタツ
